One of the three amendments to the Human Organ Transplant Act (HOTA) proposed by The Ministry of Health (MOH) is to compensate living organ donors for both direct as well as indirect costs such as lost of income and future expenditure incurred due to the organ transplant procedure.
The other two amendments are raising the upper age limit for non-living donor (cadaveric organ donation) and allowing donor-recipient paired matching which means an incompatible pair – recipient with an unmatched organ donor – can switch donors with two or more incompatible pair to find an organ that matches the recipient.
MOH is currently seeking public’s opinion for the above proposed amendments to HOTA till 15 December 2008.
