Opening of Creative Eateries’ first Sichuan Restaurant – Xiao La Jiao

January 3rd, 2012 · No Comments

Creative Eateries proudly presents Xiao La Jiao, the latest addition to its young stable of Chinese restaurants, and its first Sichuan restaurant concept that opened at 112 Katong on 8 December 2011. Xiao La Jiao presents a delightful array of renowned Sichuan delicacies from a cuisine so famous that it has its Sichuan capital, Chengdu, the first Asian city to win a UNESCO listing as a City of Gastronomy in 2011.

With Sichuan cuisine gaining significant momentum in large cities like Beijing, Shanghai and even London, Creative Eateries has endeavoured to make Xiao La Jiao an authentic showcase of this distinctive, yet versatile style of Chinese cooking. With its bright interior décor and floor to ceiling windows, the restaurant has the ambience of a humble teahouse restaurant which makes dining at Xiao La Jiao a comfortable and casual affair.

Xiao La Jiao lives up to its name and offers patrons a plethora of iconic hot favourites from China’s extra spicy province such as Mapo dofu 麻婆豆腐 or bean curd seasoned with minced pork and Sichuan spices, as well as Kung pao chicken 宫保鸡丁 with peanuts and soy-sesame sauce. Alongside these ambassadors of international Chinese Cuisine, many lesser-known authentic Sichuan delicacies like Sichuan Style Boiled Fish 水煮鱼 are specially crafted by our chefs from Chengdu and await to be savoured.

With its extensive menu, Xiao La Jiao dispels the notion that Sichuan cuisine is only about fiery spiciness. A wealth of produce, ranging from varieties of fish to vegetables and more eclectic offerings such as frog is cooked in different styles according to Sichuan culinary traditions at Xiao La Jiao. For example, cold side dishes like the Sliced Pork with Garlic Dressing 蒜泥白肉, soups and noodle dishes are subtle complements to the spicier dishes and even out the palette when eaten together. Yet another highlight of Xiao La Jiao are its delicious steamed dumplings 水饺 and pan-fried dumplings 锅贴 which are set to steal the limelight from the popular Shanghainese Xiao Long Bao as the Singaporean consumers’ top choice.

All in all, Xiao La Jiao offers a lively dining concept where exciting Sichuan cuisine is rendered fun, unpretentious and best enjoyed amongst friends and family. Come sample the charm of authentic Sichuan cooking from our team of chefs who hail from Chengdu at Xiao La Jiao – Singapore’s newest showcase of casual Sichuan dining.
